The Connemara day tour from Dublin, takes you to the wild west of Ireland. Experience its lakes, mountains and bogs where the traditions of yesteryear are still very much a part of daily life. This scenic country tour includes a photo stop at the romantic Kylemore Abbey, a 90 minutes boat cruise on the Killary fjord in summer, or traditional sheepdog trials and turf cutting in winter.

Price: 50€ Student/OAP or 55€ Adult (all tickets included).
Departure: 6.30am near Trinity College.
Arrival: 7pm near Trinity College.

6:30 We depart near Trinity College. Along the way we will make a coffee stop.
9:00 As we drive through Galway we take the road for Oughterard, said to be the official gateway to Connemara. On the road you will pass beautiful thatched cottages, wild flowers along the hedgerows and not forgetting lots of sheep ! Connemara is part of the country of Galway but is seen as a separate place which hold no boarders. But believe us when we say, you'll know when you've arrived ! You also pass the famous Quite Man bridge from the Hollywood film starring John Wayne.
10:00 We now head off towards “Killary Fjord” which is the only fjord in all the land! Upon arriving, you’ll marvel at all the thriving mussel beds while looking out towards Mweelrea, the highest mountain range in the west coast of Ireland. Please note that during the high season ( April - October ) this tour offers a 1.5 hour boat cruise down Killary harbour. During the low season ( November - March ) the boat cruise will not run and instead we will make our way over to the Killary Sheep Farm, a traditional site that hosts approximately 200 ewes and lambs that roam freely across the fjord. More specifically, the farmer Tom Nee casually explains how he mainly herds blackhead-horn sheep due to the fact that these creatures are better suited to survive living in the mountains under such harsh conditions. Here at the Killary Sheep Farm, visitors have the unique opportunity to observe local farmer performing a skilled sheepdog demonstration as well as displaying the “nack” of turf cutting.
11:30 Next we travel through one of Connemara's most beautiful places, The Inagh Valley. You will be guaranteed to lose your mobile reception along here which is a welcomed break from the outside world as you relax and take in the amazing views. You are so far west that in these parts Sheep have right of way on the roads !! Our next stop is Kylemore Abbey, a romantic castle built among an equally beautiful landscape. Originally built as a home, and later turned into a boarding school for girls, today Kylemore abbey is Connemara's biggest tourist attraction visited by millions every year. We will stop for a photo stop here before we move on to Killary harbour.
12:45 Kylemore Abbey photo stop & lunch (lunch not included). You can take in the spectacular views of numerous lakes and mountains. This is also one of the few pockets of Ireland that locals speak in Irish as their first language. These areas of Ireland are known as 'Gaeltacht regions'. Only 3 percent of the country speak fluent Irish so this is a rare experience to see people speaking in the national ancient language. As we move on you will see the Twelve Bens, a mountain range which is a favourite of walking and hikers from around the world. We pass through the village of Recess which was where Alcock & Brown made their famous landing after the first non-stop flight from America. Recess is also where Marconi, ( the inventor of the radio ) based himself during his productive years.
19:00 Arrival to Dublin city center.
